UC Riverside will hold a public viewing event on Sunday September 27, 2015 for the last lunar eclipse until 2018.

UCR to Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Hubble

The Physics and Astronomy Department at UC Riverside will be hosting a series of events the week of April 20-24 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope. The events include a photo exhibitions and talks from astronomers at UCR. For more details, see the poster.

Astronomy Public Lecture Series, "Cosmic Thursdays" begins Nov. 6th.

  The Department of Physics and Astronomy at UCR is hosting a new series of public lectures aimed at making astronomy understandable to all. The first lecture, "Einstein's Telescope: Using Gravitational Lenses as Telescopes to Reveal the Distant Universe" by Prof. Brian Siana is this Thursday, Nov. 6 at 6pm. More info here.

UC Riverside to host free public telescope observation of Oct. 8 lunar eclipse

On Wednesday, Oct. 8, California, along with several states in the western United States, will witness a total lunar eclipse, the last lunar eclipse in 2014. The eclipse will be visible with the naked eye.  It will start at 1:15 a.m. and end at 6:33 a.m., Pacific Time.  More info here.

UCR Astronomers Receive NSF Grant to Perform Large Galaxy Survey

Profs. Naveen Reddy, Brian Siana, and Bahram Mobasher (in collaboration with three other co-PIs) have been awarded an NSF grant and 44 nights on the Keck I telescope to conduct a large survey of high redshift galaxies with the new MOSFIRE spectrograph.
