COSMIC THURSDAYS, a series of public and free talks on astronomy. The talks are designed with the general audience in mind. They are fun, easy to understand, and engaging.
- Date: Thursday, February 27 – 7:00 PM
- Speaker: Dr. Warren Skidmore (Thirty Meter Telescope International Observatory)
- Place: UC Riverside, Winston Chung Hall, Room 205/206
- Talk: The Thirty Meter Telescope: What, Why and How.
Do you know that we are planning to build a gigantic telescope that would enable astronomers to see things ~10 times fainter than they currently do? In this talk Dr. Skidmore will be discussing the Thirty Meter Telescope observatory development activities, the exciting scientific questions that drive the building of a giant telescope, how the observatory is designed to support a range of scientific studies and about the engineering solutions that have been developed to overcome the technical problems of constructing and operating a giant diffraction limited observatory. Some pieces of hardware will be on display and information sheets and free giveaways will be available to take away.
- Tickets: Free but RSVP is required through EventBrite
- Parking: Limited, free permits available at Parking Kiosk to park in Lot 13
