The Astronomy group is part of the Physics and Astronomy Department at UC Riverside.

Location: UC Riverside is located about 50 miles east of Los Angeles at the base of the Box Springs Mountains.  The astronomy group currently occupies the top floor of the southern wing of Pierce Hall – in the heart of campus.

Size: there are ten faculty members and typically ~5 postdocs and ~25 astronomy graduate students.

Research Areas: the core research interests of the Department are observational and theoretical studies of galaxy evolution and cosmology.

Graduate Curriculum: the astronomy graduate students take only two thirds of their courses with other physics grad students. The other time is supplemented with astronomy courses to facilitate a quick transition to research.  If you are interested in graduate study in astrophysics, you can find further information at the Physics and Astronomy Department Graduate Program  information page.
