Location: UC Riverside is located about 50 miles east of Los Angeles at the base of the Box Springs Mountains. The astronomy group currently occupies the top floor of the southern wing of Pierce Hall – in the heart of campus.
Size: there are seven faculty members and typically ~5 postdocs and ~25 astronomy graduate students.
Research Areas: the core research interests of the Department is observational and theoretical studies of galaxy evolution and cosmology. We are part of the Southern California Center for Galaxy Evolution.
Graduate Curriculum: the astronomy graduate students take only two thirds of their courses with other physics grad students. The other time is supplemented with astronomy courses to facilitate a quick transition to research.
